Press passing

Back: Colour & UV Printing

Here at Gomer Press we are always pleased to welcome clients to watch their job on press. It is a great opportunity to introduce our team and show off our factory.

Our modern Heidelberg XL106 press runs to ISO standards for colour, and our pricing is based on standard ink weights, running speeds and paper usage.

From this perspective it is important to understand that colour adjustment on press can be expensive if standard estimated times and material allowances are exceeded. Each adjustment requires around 100 sheets of paper to run through the press to take effect. Inking adjustments are not instant on a press designed to run at 12,000 sheets per hour!

The press is not where repro/colour correction should be taking place and if your job is colour critical it is important to establish a target and set expectations before the job reaches the press.

We are able to produce colour accurate proofs or wet proofs, and match to these within our standard pricing. Likewise we are able to match to ISO/FOGRA certified press proofs provided by a repro house. For certain colour critical jobs on usual stocks we may recommend wet proofs before printing the main job.
We can not commit to match prints or proofs that are not correctly ISO/FOGRA certified.

If you press pass regularly and expect to adjust colours on press then it is important to discuss this with us well in advance as we will need to increase paper allowances to ensure we order enough to avoid the risk of running out of material. We will need to update our quotation to you to allow for this, and for the extra time on press. Please talk it through with your Customer Services Representative to set expectations to ensure the press pass runs as smoothly as possible.

We require that any job being press passed is approved to print at least 24 hours before the press pass, in order to give us time to prepare printing plates. Please also arrive at the agreed time or notify us well in advance of any delay, as it is very costly to have the press standing waiting.
